Bruno Fundraiser 2008 - A Huge Hit!
On a misty
evening in Barrington, the Rhode Island Country Club played
host to the Annual Bruno United Dinner-Dance Auction
Fundraiser, May 2nd. Members and friends of the club donated
in excess of 92 items for auction. The special guest for the
evening was National Team Defender and Rhode Island native,
Michael Parkhurst. Mr. Parkhurst spent a great deal of time
talking individually with club members, and also gave an
inspirational speech about his experiences in youth soccer and
the opportunities that it presented to him. Between the
procurement of sponsorships and auction sales, the club raised
close-to $18,000.00. These funds are an essential part of the
club's financial viability and many thanks go out to all of
those who contributed to make the evening such a success.
Attendance at the event exceeded all expectations, with over
200 guests in attendance.
2008 College Night
Review
The annual Bruno College Night
took place on Wednesday March 12th, 2008. The event was a
great success, and was well-attended by over seventy-five
players and family members. Presenters included Mike Noonan
(Brown Head Coach & Bruno President), Manda Risden (Brown
Women's Assistant Coach) Seamus Purcell (Bryant University
Men's Head Coach), and Jay Woodward (Johnson & Wales
University Women's Coach). Each gave a brief overview of
the college recruitment and application process, with their
own unique philosophy and style highlighted. All were on
hand to answer many questions related to college soccer.
Topics included levels of play, regulation and rule
differences between the three divisions, and
coaching/recruiting philosophy.
The primary speaker was Ken
Murphy, Recruiting Coordinator and Assistant Men's Coach at
Brown University. Coach Murphy put together a superb
presentation and handout for all of the families, with a
in-depth insight into the college process.
